Prom Night

Finished my dress and prom was a blast! Here are some pictures and memories from the night. My senior project was a complete success and I have decided that I learned so much from my mentor and could not have picked a better project.

Final Stretch

It has come down to the final stretch of senior project and the time is flying. So far my dress is almost complete, I have finished the skirt and bodice and all that is left is to sew the lining for the bodice and attach the tulle. Linnea and I are meeting on the 13th to finish all of this I will be spending the night and then we shall see what the final product is! I am so excited to see what it finally looks like and I have learned so much from my mentor I am so grateful she has the patience to teach me.

Accessories

Over spring break I went and bought all my “accessories”, so to say, for prom! I think that they go really well with my outfit and while I have never liked shopping this was a lot more fun that sitting at home on the couch or going to swim practice like normal, also it distracted from the fact that I had strep throat for the first 5 days of break. I took pictures so I could share with you guys what they look like.

Weekend Worktime

Over the weekend I once again went over to Linnea’s house and we worked somewhat diligently on my dress (we had a few “breaks” in between working). We made serious progress though! So far here is what I have done; we have the skirt and bodice done but in seperate halves, we bought the lining for the inside of the bodice and the tulle for the outside of the skirt, and we have a date for the next few weeks to work on the dress again. I would have to say that we are making leaps and bounds! I can’t wait for prom it is going to be amazing!!!! Here are some pictures of me working hard, hard, hard.

What we have done so far, its looking fantastic.

Questioning

I am having a bunch of questions running through my head about my dress like I’m not sure if anyone will like it. I mean i know all that matters is that I think I look pretty in it but for right now I guess I am just stressing. I also have no idea how many blog posts we are supposed to have on our blogs by the time senior project is done but I will hope that I will have enough to meet requirements. Anyway, on the dress front I am doing fantastic pretty much we have the skirt mostly done and we have all of the pieces cut out that go together onto the dress and the only thing left to get is the lining and the elastic. As well as maybe some additional things like accessories for the prom, earrings, jewelry  and whatnot. Other than that I am not stressing and I feel like I will for sure have my dress done in time for prom. I am on schedule for April  Oh, and Lindsey and I are working on getting a limo for prom its going to be the best thing ever and of course my dress will be amazing too!

Weekend Marathon!

Over the last weekend I got so much done on my dress it was amazing! Almost all of the skirt is finished all we have left to do is sew the bottom seams together and I think I really want to add some tulle possibly. I am not sure I will have to talk to my mentor haha. I just am thinking I want to add some originality to the dress. So here are some pictures of the progress made over the weekend. (Per usual they will have comments)

On Hold

So far my prom dress is going fantastic, however, we are on a bit of a hold till next weekend. She is alright but my mentor has fallen on her knee and is home bound for a week or so and this weekend wasn’t in the plan. We were about to meet next weekend seeing as it is a four day weekend then I realized that I had a swim meet on Saturday and Sunday. Finally we came up with a date that worked and it is the 23rd and 24th of February. Hopefully we can meet up and get loads more work done on the dress. It should be easy since we have everything set up, all we have to do is cut all the pieces! Oh, and buy some lining fabric, can’t forget about that!

Prom Dress Awesomeness!

I am officially starting my project. Operation Prom Dress! The very first step of course is to be familiar with the pattern of the dress so we opened it up and laid the whole thing out on the cutting table. The pattern was huge and so fragile because of the kind of paper used. I thought I was going to rip it. Then after we knew what we needed to do for the first step we started cutting out all the pieces to dress C than something bad happened. We realized our egregious mistake. We bought the wrong size pattern!!! AHHH! So we had to run over to the local Santa Rosa Johannes and buy the next size up, thankfully they had one left. Than we got to work actually cutting out the fabric! It was fabulous and we definitely learned from our mistake!

Now that we know all the pieces we need to cut out time to start cutting :D!

OH NO! WRONG PATTERN!

Once we got back than we really got down to business.

I was even wearing my New Tech Gear, it’s just so comfy.

All the pieces have been cut out.

Linnea and I got to work on reading about all the details. You have to know exactly what you are doing before you are going to start.

She taught me how to draw the line and than cut the pattern on the correct line.

Cutting out the see through fabric that we call the “overlay.”

Work, Work, Work.

Second Semester

So far I am on track for completing my senior project, which is awesome! I have almost everything supply wise that I will need for my prom dress and as for my mentor I have officially found a replacement. My previous mentor is moving and would not have been here for the May presentations nor to even help me finish the dress within the next few months. However, all of that is fixed now! YAY!

My new mentor Linnea Laufer is very experienced at sewing and many other crafts and has also sewn things like; wedding dresses, quilts, bags, stuffed animals, etc. I am very excited to get started on my prom dress with her! We will be meeting on Sunday January 20th, 2013 to plan. I will give you an update ASAP, or as soon as I get one.
